Apple crumble makes my tummy rumble. Yep I went there. And I also went there with this epic and delicious apple crumble! I love this crumble. It's soft, warming, crunchy and just a little bit sweet!
Not sure if this is 'traditional' in a sense that it is globally recognised as apple crumble ingredients, but it's 'traditional' in a sense that it's been made in my family for as long as I remember!
This apple crumble recipe brings back so many happy childhood memories for me! My mum taught me how to bake a long, long time ago, and pretty much taught me all her traditional family recipes!
I have very fond memories of stirring the christmas cake batter and making a wish, and mum perching me on the kitchen bench when I was about 5 or 6 years old so that I could watch her.
Nothing much in that regard has changed...I still have to hoist myself up on benches to get things, because I am ridiculously short and our apartment has REALLY tall cupboards! I've requested that Adam buys me a little step-ladder (#howembarrasing).
But back to the topic, one of the first recipes that I remember Mum teaching me was apple crumble, because it is so easy and so dang delicious! It is especially better if you make it with your own stewed apples! So technically today you are getting TWO recipes! One for stewed apples, and one for apple crumble!
This recipe is your ultimate comfort dessert, and I'm not sure we've done a dessert for F*ck it Friday's yet so you're in for a real treat! I made this for our Australian friends last week and they were pretty impressed, so I thought it should feature on the blog! This recipe is; easy to make, delicious, buttery, comforting and crunchy! A perfect combination we think!
As most of our recipes, this apple crumble is designed for two people, so we opted to use two decent sized oven-proof ramekins. You could easily make it in a bigger bowl, or a cake tin (I used a loaf tin the other day, and doubled the recipe for 4) and it turned out perfectly! So do what you can, with the utensils that you have and enjoy!
